Songs of Glimmerwick Guide

Characters, friendships and romance

Quick answer

No player romance — the studio has said you do not date anyone; the relationships in the world belong to its characters. Friendships are what you build.

There is no romance system in Songs of Glimmerwick: you do not date anyone. The studio said so during development, and the store page still promises "friends", not romance — no dating routes, no marriage, no gift hearts. What the world does have is its own relationships: characters with their own stories, same-sex couples among them.

Friends and townsfolk gathered around the tavern hearth

Quick answer

No player romance — the studio has said you do not date anyone. What the world has instead is a cast with its own lives; the relationships in Glimmerwick belong to its characters. Friendships are what you build.

What is confirmed

  • Everyone is voiced. Dialogue is fully performed "for every character major and minor."
  • Characters have real lives. Students, staff, townsfolk and "spritely creatures" each have stories and routines; local drama and rumors drive quests.
  • Classes and after-school clubs are the social venues — you meet people through the school calendar.
  • An inclusive character creator — you build your own witch; the studio's answer in 2022 was that the character is not defined by gender.
  • Skills include social perks — the progression tree includes trade-focused abilities and oddities like speaking to frogs.

Why this keeps coming up

Every cozy RPG in this shape — a school year, festivals, clubs, a small town — trains players to expect dating routes, and Glimmerwick is the rare one that does not have them. Its relationships belong to the characters, not to you: you are a student making friends. If the studio ever changes that, this page will be the first to say so.
